Books ‘n Tunes – The Sun is Also a Star

What better way to experience a book then with a soundtrack. It sounds like a fun challenge, so without further ado, game on. My goal is come up with 10 songs that would be the score for a The Sun is Also a Star movie. And with the Everything Everything movie coming up, who knows, maybe Nicola Yoon’s The Sun is Also a Star might be the next one to get a feature film.

So strap on your big pink headphones and boot up Spotify. Here is my OTS (One True Soundtrack)

  1. Falling is Like This – Ani Difranco  ~  This song has always been representative of what falling in love is like. “One minute there was road beneath us / the next there’s sky”
  2. Falling For You – Colbie Callait  ~  This reminds me of Daniel and how much he believed in his love at first sight.
  3. I am a Heart – Hey Ocean!  ~  Falling in love is not on Natasha’s to do list. She’s “a heart that’s hard to pin”
  4. Ironic – Alanis Morrisette  ~  All those coincidences, the missed opportunities, those moments of being in the right place at the right time. It reminded me of this old classic.
  5. Waiting Song – Ani Difranco  ~  Natasha has a bone to pick with the system, with good reason. She is fighting hard to stay in the country and coming to terms with her relationship with her father.  “I know you have to go, you’ve gone before / We’re fighting on two different fronts of the same war / But no matter what else I will do, baby / I will wait for you”
  6. Somewhere Only We Know – Keane
  7. Stolen – Dashboard Confessional
  8. Thank-you – Dido
  9. Dreaming with a Broken Heart – John Mayer
  10. Here’s to the Night – Eve6   ~  Natasha and Daniel get one day together, and they know it. They have to make the most of it. Songs 6-9 are the songs representative of the end of the book.

If you liked the playlist find it on Spotify or on Youtube. Happy listening!
